REPTILE SUPPLEMENT
TORTOISES: The
freshwater tortoises have strongly clawed, webbed feet that enable them to
swim and walk on land. They are carnivorous and feed underwater. Their
natural diet consists of small slow moving aquatic animals and includes
yabbies, insect larvae, tadpoles and small fish. Feed captive tortoises as
much live food as possible and Wombaroo Reptile Supplement prepared as
pellets or Meat Mix, removing any uneaten food from the aquarium. Do not
overfeed.
SKINKS: Skinks can be recognised
by their overlapping and often smooth or glossy scales. The larger skinks
such as Blue-tongues and Shingle-backs are omnivorous and eat a variety of
plants as well as snails and insects. Feed the larger skinks a variety of
vegetables with Wombaroo Reptile Supplement prepared as either pellets or
Meat Mix. Alternatively feed Wombaroo Reptile Supplement made up as Veg
Mix. Small skinks are mainly insectivorous and will require live insects
in their diet.
GECKOS: Geckos
are small, predominantly nocturnal, lizards with soft, dull skin and large
eyes. They are almost exclusively insectivorous and difficult to maintain
on artificial diets. Some success has been achieved by feeding Wombaroo
Reptile Supplement as Meat Mix direct to the mouth. Like all of the
insectivorous reptiles they need live food in their diet.
DRAGONS: Most
dragons are small lizards with rough or spiny skin, slender tails and
prominent moveable eyelids. They are predominantly insectivorous although
the larger Bearded Dragon is omnivorous. Feed dragons Wombaroo Reptile
Supplement as for skinks.
GOANNAS: These
lizards have a forked tongue, dull skin with granular scales and powerful
limbs and tail. They are predators and scavengers eating insects, small
lizards, snakes, birds, mammals and carrion. Feed goannas whole bodies
stuffed with Wombaroo Reptile Supplement at the rate of 5g per 50g of food
carcass weight.
SNAKES: Feed
Wombaroo Reptile Supplement to snakes by stuffing whole bodies at the rate
of 5g per 50g of food carcass weight.
DIRECTIONS
TO FEED AS A MEAT MIX: Mix 3
teaspoons of Wombaroo Reptile Supplement with 5g of coarse ground mince
meat, fish or one mashed hard-boiled egg. A small amount of water may be
needed to moisten the mix.
TO FEED AS PELLETS: Mix about 1
teaspoon of water with three teaspoons of Wombaroo Reptile Supplement.
Slowly add the water while mixing until a putty like consistency is
achieved. This mixture can then be kneaded by hand into a soft workable
mass. Small pieces can be broken from the mass and rolled into pellets the
feeding. This week should be treated as a "dry food" so always have
drinking water available.
TO FEED AS A VEG MIX: Disburse
Wombaroo Reptile Supplement over equal proportions by weight of finely
chopped apple, banana, tomato and freshly washed and chopped silver beet.
After mixing shake off any powder that does not cling to the fruit and
vegetables. This mixture is composed of approximately 22 % apple, 22 %
banana, 22 % tomato, 22 % silver beet and 12% Reptile Supplement.
FORCE-FEED MIX: Prepare a slurry
by mixing about three teaspoons of warm water with three teaspoons of
Wombaroo Reptile Supplement. Add the water slowly while mixing to make a
slurry of pourable consistency. The mixture will absorb water on standing
so continue mixing for a few minutes and if necessary add more water.
Force-feed this mixture using a syringe and tube.
